Who we are - What we do
Springboard is a charity set up to support children aged 0-5 with additional needs and their families in the North Somerset area. We were started by a small group of local parents in 1986 who desperately needed help with their very young children. We have continued to put children and families first and think it is essential to respond to their needs.
Although most children and families find their way to Springboard by a referral from a health visitor, speech and language therapist, physiotherapist and so on, any parent or carer is welcome to contact us themselves and arrange a time to visit. This is what we do:
- run specialist, structured play sessions at our friendly and welcoming purpose-built centres in Clevedon and Weston super Mare and in partnership with the South Weston Children’s Centre.
- offer Stay & Play sessions each week for families with very young children, who may need extra support and a first step to Springboard.
- an Early Years Inclusion Service supporting children in their local preschool or nursery and promoting inclusion for all children.
- have strong partnerships with parents and carers and provide them with information and support
- we benefit from having qualified, skilled and experienced staff who work closely with the children to assess their needs through play and a range of specialist interventions
- work in close partnership with all professionals from the local children & young people’s services.
Since we started, we have worked with almost 800 children and their families and we now provide a vital service for over 90 every week.
Our services are highly valued and respected by parents, carers and the statutory services. North Somerset Council, North Somerset Primary Care Trust, south Weston Children's Centre and a range of charitable trusts provide the majority of our funding. Monies are also raised from the "Friends of Springboard" activities. We do charge for sessions and once a child reaches three years of age parents can claim Nursery Grant funding.
